We start our activity early in the morning, we pick you up from your hotel to Huacarpay lagoon, and we will move around it. The marshy riverbanks and lake waters support waterfowl and Andean wading birds, birds to be sighted are Barcina Teal (Anas flavirostris), Red-breasted Teal (Anas cyanoptera) and Puna Teal (Anas puna), Red-breasted Duck (Oxyura ferruginea), and other beautiful birds associated with the wetlands. Great Crested Grebe (Rollandia Rolland), Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis), and Andean Coot (Fulica ardesiaca), Red Knot (Pardirallus sanguinolentus) will also be here. Depending on the time of year migratory shorebirds from North America may be present. Good birds here include Yellow-headed Thrush (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus), Andean Negrito (Lessonia oreas), Rubrigast’s Warbler (Tachuris rubrigastra) and Junquero (Phleocryptes melanops), Puna Moorhen (Plegadis ridgwayi). Other raptors will also be high on our search list, such as the Red-backed Hawk (Geranoaetus polyosoma), Red-backed Hawk (Falco femoralis) and Black-eared Eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucus). On our target list for today will be the endemic Frentirrufo Canastero (Asthenes ottonis) and the beautiful endemic of course Noble Hummingbird (Oreonympha nobilis) will be feeding in the tobacco tree (Nicotiana sp.) with the Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas), and the Lesser Pintail Hummingbird (Lesbia nuna). The Peruvian Yal, plebeyo and Pechinegro we will also add to our list the Olivaceous Chirigüe (Sicalis olivascens) and Orange-bellied Tanager (Pipraeidea bonariensis). In the afternoon we will be back in Cusco.
