Day 1. – ABRA MALAGA – western slope.
We pick you up from your hotel, on our private Van from Cusco to Ollantaytambo. On the way we will get off the Van to walk on specific birding spots such as High Andean wetlands, like Huaypo Lake where it is possible to see migratory Birds such as Puna Plover (Chorlitejo andino), Solitary Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Wilson´s Phalarope, Andean Lapwing and several species of finchs. In the West.
Once we make it to The Abra Malaga we are going to look for the endemics like Royal Cinclodes, Creamy-crested Spinetail, Chestnut-breasted Mountain-finch, White-tufted Sumbean, Junin Canastero, Rusty-fronted Canastero, Additional birds on this side of the pass include Andean Guan, Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, Pearled Treerunner, Red-crested Cotinga, Unstreaked Tit-Tyrant, Pale-legged Warbler, White-browed Conebill, Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Chestnut-breasted Mountain-Tanager, Moustached Flowerpiercer, and Cusco Brush-Finch. Rarely seen but present is Gray-breasted Seedsnipe. Of course, Andean Condors are always a possibility as well.
The day we go Fog is possible, especially later in the year around November and December. The weather is generally much better in the dry season from July-September
Day 2.-ABRA MALAGA – eastern slope.
We will leave very early (by van) towards Abra Málaga. We will make a stop to observe birds which we missed the day before, but our objective will be to explore the high zone of the mountain and its eastern slope, where we will find new species of birds in habitats generally comprised of dwarf forest and cloud forest. In this area we can find the Sword-billed Hummingbird, el endemic Marcapata Spinetail, Stripe-headed Antpitta, Grass-green Tanager, y Violet-throated Starfrontlet, and many more.
We will have our box lunch and head back to Ollantaytambo or Cusco.
